Enchanting Winter Weddings: Trends to Watch in 2023/24

Winter Weddings: Trends in 2023/24

From choosing a venue to picking the food, a lot goes into planning a wedding. You will have a seemingly endless list of options for every aspect of your wedding, even down to the style of music and photography, but you do need to think about the season. If you are planning a winter wedding, you should consider wedding trends that work well in the colder, darker months.

Popular Trends for Winter Weddings

Weekend Long Events – There are few things as exciting as a wedding day, so it’s easy to see why a growing number of couples are turning their big day into a weekend-long event. The trend of having wedding celebrations that span over an entire weekend has been popular in the US for a while, with many couples having a rehearsal dinner the night before and some having a breakfast or lunch to say goodbye to guests the day after. However, it’s now something that many couples in the UK are doing, and wedding venues are regularly being asked to host events that span two or three days.

Retro Inspired – We have already seen several retro-themed weddings in 2023, and that doesn’t seem to be changing as we head into winter and towards 2024. Many couples are incorporating elements of the 60s and 70s into their big day, with brides opting for retro hairstyles and grooms choosing vintage suits. Some are even taking things back even further, by embracing the roaring 20s. This retro theme can be reflected in your choice of music, photography style and decor.

Winter Wedding Dresses – When planning a winter wedding, you need to think about what you will wear. You might have a dream wedding dress in mind, but it might not be appropriate for cold and possibly wet weather. This is why winter dresses are a big trend for winter weddings in 2023 and 2024. You could choose to layer your outfit with a warm accessory, such as a faux fur jacket, or you could choose to embrace winter entirely by choosing a long-sleeved dress.

Embrace Sparkle – There is no denying that winter can be a dark, cold and somewhat gloomy time of the year, but any wedding can be brightened up with a bit of sparkle. Sparkly decor is ideal for a winter wedding, as the moody backdrop and dark evenings will help everything to really pop. Adding fairy lights, putting sparkly details on centrepieces and choosing balloons filled with glitter are all ways of subtly adding something sparkly to your big day.

At The Wyndham, we have been fortunate enough to host a number of weddings over the years at our castle, Clearwell Castle, and have seen just how wonderful a winter wedding can be.
