Celebrity-approved: The Forest of Dean

The Forest of Dean and Wye Valley is a fabulous and beautiful location – perfect for a romantic getaway, in fact, but don’t just take our word for it.

Just ask celebrity couple Stacey Solomon and Joe Swash. The pair spent their honeymoon with family (her grandparents grew up here) in a self-catering cottage in the area after tying the knot earlier this year.

The couple, who have family in the area, also brought with them Stacey’s children on their romantic holiday Zachary, 13, and Leighton, 10, as well as their little ones Rex, three, and daughter Rose, 10 months.

Stacey reveals Forest of Dean is her ‘happy place’

Former X-Factor star Stacey, 32 – who now presents on popular TV shows Loose Women and Bake Off: The Professionals, revealed the Forest of Dean is her ‘happy place’ and she loves to return to it whenever she gets the chance. Her husband Joe, 40, played Mickey Miller in East Enders for five years. He proposed to her in a forest two years ago. They currently live in £1.2 million Pickle Cottage in Essex.

Gloucestershire is a celebrity ‘hang out’

If you’ve ever been to the Forest of Dean and Gloucestershire, you will understand why Stacey and Joe aren’t the only celebrities who are attracted to the area’s beauty, peace and tranquility. Other celebrities who have stayed here either on holiday, visiting friends or working include Idris Elba, Jamie Dornan and 1980s pop star and actor Jason Donovan (who was recently quoted as saying Gloucestershire was ‘a lovely part of the world.)’ The Netflix series Sex Education was also filmed in the Forest of Dean.

Then there are others who live here, in the Cotswolds, such as Kate Winslet, the Beckhams, and even Prince Charles, who stays at his famous Highgrove home and country estate. Former Baywatch star David Hasselhoff was in Gloucester earlier this year, while Ginger Spice Geri Horner brought her kids, Monty and Bluebell, to the Jet Age Museum in Staverton this summer.

@GreatBritishMag: “Lady Edna Healey loves the Forest of Dean, where she grew up: “The poet, Leonard Clarke… came and had tea with me, I showed him my little London garden, and I told him, ‘Underneath that apple tree, I’m going to plant daffodils, and I’ve got bluebells underneath there; and there’s a bank with some violets…’ “And he looked at me and said, ‘And where are you putting the bracken?’ “He could see exactly what I’d done. I’d recreated the Forest of Dean.’”
