There is always something exciting to do in The Forest of Dean, and December is no different. As well as enjoying delicious meals at The Wyndham and resting your head in one of our many luxurious rooms, you can head out on forest adventures and see for yourself why the area attracts so many visitors at this time of year.
Things to Do This December in The Forest of Dean
- Pottery – The Forest of Dean is an area that embraces arts and crafts, and pottery is a key part of that. You can learn how to make your own mugs and vases, plant and pen pots, and even paint them to add a touch of personal style to the result. There is a range of pottery options in the area, with many aimed at children and adults.
- Cookery – If you fancy yourself a bit of a pro in the kitchen or have a passion for cooking but lack the skills, sign up for a class at the Harts Barn Cookery School. There are a range of options available, including those for complete beginners, and it’s a great way to hone your cooking, baking, breadmaking or vegan cooking skills. Classes for children and private lessons are also available.
- Cycling – If you are confident on two wheels, enjoy the great outdoors whilst on a cycling adventure. The Family Cycle Trail is a nine-mile path around The Forest of Dean, showing you some of the key sights and beautiful landscapes. There are also cycling lessons available in the area, including mountain biking.
- Caving – As long as you aren’t claustrophobic, consider heading deep into Clearwell Caves and exploring everything lurking below ground. There are 600 acres to explore, all hidden 200ft underground. It’s certainly one part of The Forest of Dean you wouldn’t see any other way.
- Falconry – One of the great things about The Forest of Dean is the sheer amount of wildlife found in the area, including birds. You can get up close and personal with hawks, owls, falcons and more by signing up for a falconry experience. There is a range of options to choose from, all of which will broaden your knowledge and understanding of these impressive creatures.
- Archery – If you haven’t given archery a go before, what are you waiting for? Archery is an ancient sport, but it’s still as enjoyable today as it has always been. It’s an activity that the whole family can get involved in, and The Forest of Dean has opportunities for everyone, including complete beginners.
