The Secret Forest
Located opposite Clearwell Caves, not far from Puzzlewood, The Secret Forest is one of the most unique attractions in the Forest of Dean. With a landscape made up of ancient trees, winding walkways, and moss-covered houses, the forest has a magical atmosphere all of its own.
Though it’s open all year round, it’s during the summer months that The Secret Forest really comes alive. From the end of July to the beginning of September, the forest is home to a collection of magical fairies. As @GlosLiveOnline the summer, “Is also the perfect time to spot fairies as this is when they are most active collecting berries, nuts and materials to see them through the cold winter.”

Other events at The Secret Forest
If you’re travelling to the area outside of the summer season, The Secret Forest is still well worth a visit. You’ll find regular events on at the attraction including Minibeast Safaris, Natural Art workshops, and workshops that teach kids and parents how to cook on open wood fires.
Other courses teach visitors about the secret life of the woodland, the secret life of caves and the secret art of survival. There’s also a lovely cafe serving hot and cold treats as well as a second-hand shop brimming with bargains.
Other things to do nearby
The area around The Secret Forest is home to a number of other attractions. The two most famous are Clearwell Caves and Puzzlewood. Clearwell Caves is just a short walk from the Secret Forest and so makes the perfect addition to your day trip.
Visit these ancient caves and learn all about the deep red ochre that’s been mined here for generations. There’s a gift shop and café on site, so you can grab a bite to eat, and a souvenir, before heading underground.
Like The Secret Forest, Puzzlewood is an ancient woodland in the heart of the Forest of Dean. A lovely spot for a family walk, Puzzlewood is home to a great choice of routes and beautiful landscapes.
