Eggcellent Easter events to enjoy in Gloucestershire

There are plenty of activities for young ones to get involved in this Easter and during the spring holidays here in Gloucestershire.

From chocolate egg hunts on the day itself to craft activities and wildlife photography courses, there really does seem to be something for everyone. Wildlife fans are in for a treat at Slimbridge while Cotswold Farm Park is letting visitors get up close and personal with some newly-born lambs.

Without further ado, here is a quick glance at some of the super spring listings this year:

Lambing & Kidding at Adam Henson’s Cotswold Farm Park

Monday 14 February – Sunday 24 April 2022

What could be cuter this spring than meeting some newly-born lambs? Both sheep and goats will give birth in the Park’s Animal Barn. Visitors will be able to get a close look at the lambing pens. If you’re lucky you might also get to meet the odd piglet and guinea pig.

Cracking Easter Fun at Birdland

Saturday 2 April – Sunday 24 April 2022

This popular Gloucestershire wildlife centre, with more than 500 birds, is expecting some new fluffy arrivals just in time for Easter. It means visitors can enjoy watching chicks emerging from their shells and taking their first shaky walks. The eggs are currently in incubators so no one should miss out on the event at the Bourton-on-the-Water location. Other goings-on at Birdland includes Easter trails, talks, and quizzes.

Easter Duck Trail at WWT Slimbridge

Saturday 9 – Sunday 24 April 2022

Find the hidden ducks by cracking the clues on a trail card when you take a visit to Slimbridge WWT this spring. There are prizes to be won at these wetlands so make sure you don’t miss out on the fun.

Easter Holiday Fun at The Dean Heritage Centre

Saturday 9 – Friday 24 April 2022

Embark on an outdoors Easter egg trail at the Forest of Dean and join in one or two of the workshops on the two-week-long forest-themed spring programme from 8 to 19 April. Events in the craft hut include making bird feeders, animal homes, seed bombs and bonnets or crowns with flowers.

The Wizard of Oz at The Roses Theatre

Tuesday 12 – Wednesday 13 April 2022

Fancy an Easter pantomime? Oh yes you do! Dorothy and her gang – the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion embark on a journey to Oz. There they’ll come face-to-face with the Wizard and en-route meet the scary Wicked Witch of the West. Look out for old favourites such as Basil Brush and Dame Phylip “Dolly” Harries.

Young Birder ID Workshop at WWT Slimbridge

Friday 22 April 2022

Back to the Slimbridge wetlands and this time it’s for bird enthusiasts aged 13 to 18, who are keen to learn more about these winged wonders.

@WWTworldwide: “From April, cuckoos arrive. Kingfishers begin prospecting nest sites and start laying around April time (and which is visible from the Kingfisher Hide). Warblers begin to breed during this season too.”

Reserve wardens will be out helping their charges identify various waders, duck types and passerines.
